Site Description: Complex of Fishponds
Site Access: Public to part of site only (incl Wine Wife Well), now community nature reserve
Visibility: Clear
Micro climate: Dark, sheltered
Buildings: None
Walkways / Gateways / Paths etc: Appear modern: boardwalk to Well, gravel Land Rover tracks. Other footpaths through site could be remnants of designed landscape
Water features: Wine Wife Well: natural spring feeding Hebden Beck & 3 small lakes (dammed); 2 with stone wall edges
Other man-made features: Sandstone quarry (1799 - early 1900s) owned by township of Sawley
Natural features: Large weathered sandstone rocks
Planting: Replanted in 2005 with shrubs & trees as community nature reserve
General Condition: Lakes appeared overgrown with ferns & bracken
Recommendations: NFA
